Purpose in the Pain: What My Struggles Taught Me
If I’m being honest, pain is not something any of us sign up for.
We don’t wake up one day and say, “You know what sounds good? Trials, heartbreak, setbacks, and seasons that stretch me beyond what I think I can handle.” Yet somehow, those are often the very seasons that shape us the most.

Looking back over my life, I can clearly see moments where I felt broken, overwhelmed, discouraged, or unsure how I was going to make it through. There were seasons where the pain felt heavy and the answers felt far away. But here’s what I’ve learned: pain is never wasted when God is involved.
Pain Isn’t a Dead End—It’s a Detour with Purpose
When we’re in the middle of a struggle, it can feel like everything has stopped. Like life hit pause while everyone else keeps moving forward. But what I’ve learned through my own struggles is that pain isn’t a punishment—it’s often preparation.
Every trial I’ve walked through taught me something:
- Strength I didn’t know I had
- Resilience I wouldn’t have built otherwise
- Compassion for others walking a similar road
- A deeper dependence on God instead of myself

What once felt like a setback became a setup for growth.
I didn’t come out the same person—and that’s a good thing. I came out stronger, wiser, and more grounded in who I am and whose I am.
Growth Rarely Happens in Comfortable Seasons
We grow the most in the uncomfortable, messy, and uncertain places. It’s in those moments when we realize we can’t do it on our own. And that realization? That’s where real transformation begins.
Pain strips away the illusion of control. It humbles us. It pushes us to our knees. And sometimes, it’s there—on our knees—that we hear God the clearest.

Abba Walks Us Through Every Season
As much as supportive friends, family, and community matter (and they truly do), there is one who walks us through pain better than anyone else—our Abba above.
